Sisters of Kabul

FILM DETAILS

Trailer

Four young women find their voices, and each other, on Afghan television. Then the Taliban return, and the lives they are building begin to unravel.

At Zan TV in Kabul, Afghanistan’s first channel run by and for women, journalism gives them an income, a public voice and a say in their country’s future. In the newsroom they become more than colleagues: a circle of sisters who share ambitions, doubts and daily life in a country that rarely makes room for women. In August 2021, Kabul falls. Overnight, their plans give way to questions of survival, separation and exile.

Filmed over seven years, Sisters of Kabul follows the four women from the newsroom to new lives in Europe, where each of them must start again on her own. Leaving brings safety, but also the loss of their work, their identity and their sense of belonging.

With intimate access before and after the fall of Kabul, the film tells one of the defining stories of recent years through the sisterhood of four women, a bond that exile can separate but not break. A story of ambition, courage and loyalty that continues long after the world has stopped watching.
