Open Wounds: Latin America’s Silent Wars (Series)

FILM DETAILS

TRAILER

We are not all here. This is the motto that reminds us of the absenceof daughters, friends, mothers, sisters, and at the same time speaks to us of the powerful union of Latin American women, who advance determined, firm and united, creating networks on the entire continent which connect the movements in each country.

A woman is murdered every two hours in Latin America because she is a woman. In the face of this devastating panorama, the Green Tide and the Violet Tide exploded to shed light on women’s struggles, creating important cultural transformations. The series is a living portrait that unravels these stories and their faces in Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico.

Episode 1. Colombia (52′) | Colombia suffers the ravages of armed conflict, where women have been considered spoils of war; in the countryside as in the city, their bodies continue to be used as currency.

Episode 2. Mexico (52′) | Mexico was the first country in the region to criminalize femicide, but today it is the most dangerous place in Latin America to be a woman. In a system of impunity, Mexican women are organizing themselves.

Episode 3. Argentina (51′) | On January 14, 2021, the law on voluntary termination of pregnancy was passed, propelled by the green tide: a wave of young people who continued and intensified the struggles of women of the 20th century century.

Episode 4. Chile (50′) | The feminist movements challenge patriarchal society, transforming the political landscape and integrating dissent. From street protests to creative performances, we explore how these
communities are redefining the struggle for equality in Chile.
